Does App Training Count as Propane or DOT Hazmat Training?
No. Learning the app alone does not prove that an employee has the job training or DOT hazmat training they need. Match training to the actual work. Keep proof of what was taught and tested. Closing a stop on a phone is just one task.
Match training to the job
49 CFR 172.704 lists general awareness, function-specific, safety and security-awareness training. Staff whose covered duties fall under a required security plan also need in-depth security training. The hazmat employer is responsible. Read the full rule against each person’s work.
Check the current course path
PERC’s Education Program page describes the change from CETP to PEP. PEP groups learning by job function. Review the paths with your trainer and check state rules. A software lesson does not prove completion of a PERC course or a required license.
Keep clear records
Note which app tasks the office and drivers have practiced. Keep the hazmat training record and job-training proof as well. If a class serves more than one purpose, have the trainer list which parts of each rule it covers. A broad label like “compliant” is not enough.
Questions owners ask
Does buying a driver app certify my drivers?
No. A purchase does not prove completed training, testing or any required license.
Who owns the hazmat training obligation?
The hazmat employer is responsible under 49 CFR 172.704. An app lesson does not pass that duty to the vendor.
Next step
Have your trainer list the app tasks staff need to learn. Bring that list to a driver-workflow demo.
