Does a Propane Company Website Need to Be Accessible?
For businesses open to the public, DOJ says ADA duties extend to goods and services on the web. Customers need to be able to use your website’s ordering and help paths. Test those tasks. A template or clean automated scan alone does not prove the site works for everyone.
Test the tasks customers need
DOJ’s web guidance points to barriers such as forms with no labels, poor contrast and pages that need a mouse. Test contact and order steps with keyboard and assistive-technology users. Can they read instructions, fix an error and reach help?
Put the checks in the scope
Agree who will test the site, who will fix issues and how customers report a problem. Include outside tools used to place an order. Recheck key tasks after a checkout or copy change. These are our review steps, not a claim that Blink Fuel passed an audit.
Use guidance for your business
DOJ points to WCAG as useful guidance. Its 2022 page does not set a detailed technical standard for private businesses. It flags a separate rule for state and local governments. Do not apply a government deadline to a private dealer without checking who the rule covers.
Questions owners ask
Is a clean automated scan enough?
No. DOJ suggests manual checks as well as tools. Test the tasks a customer actually needs to finish.
Does this establish that a native mobile app is compliant?
No. This page covers website guidance. It does not certify a native app or decide the full legal scope for your business.
Next step
List the web tasks your customers need to complete. Bring that list to a website review and agree how each one will be tested.
